Dominican Republic Trip 2006 & California

Dominican Republic 2006 My Birthday happens to fall on the very same day that Independence Day is celebrated in DR. February 27th is a very important, historical day, a day of carnival and the beginning of celebration filled with Dominican pride. Almost every dominican New York native has told me "your dominican and you have never traveled to your own country" and when I tell them the date of my birthday they say I have no idea what I am missing. Boy were they right! Its a place in this world that really felt like home, that felt like I belonged and it made sense. I was so enchanted by the beauty, the people, the food, the music, the culture, and their way of life. Though it was all new to me it did not feel distant in anyway. I spent my birthday home for the first time in my life and I had the time of my life. I ate dinner on a bed over the ocean with the most beautiful view and with two of my friends.
